![]() Come next May, you will finally rejoin Ellie in The Last of Us Part II. We are grateful for your patience and continued support. We know the extra few months will add to what may already be an excruciating wait for all of us. We hope you understand that this additional time ensures that The Last of Us Part II lives up to our collective ambition as well as our commitment to the highest level of quality. We hate disappointing our fans and for that we’re sorry. We wish we could’ve foreseen the amount of polish we needed, but the size and scope of this game got the better of us. While we’re relieved that we won’t have to compromise our vision, we’re disappointed that we weren’t able to avoid this exact situation. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team. At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. ![]() However, it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realised we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality. After working on something for so many years, it’s invigorating to get a glimpse of validation for all the hard work. You can feel the energy among the team members. The positive response we saw from our community was overwhelming. It was just about a month ago when we had our big blowout for the game, letting media play over two hours of it along with debuting our new story trailer and revealing the release date. The Last of Us Part II has a new release date of 29th May, 2020. To our fans, let me cut to the chase and get the news out of the way. Here is the statement from Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog The Last of Us Part II will now launch on 29th May having been delayed from earlier in the year. There are also rumours that the game will be coming to PC. Lovely.Last week images from the cancelled animation which was to bridge the game between The Last of Us parts one and two surfaced. So, why didn’t it make it into the game, like Ellie’s guitar-playing minigame? According to Anthony Vaccaro, Principal Environment Artist at Naughty Dog (thanks, TheGamer), it's because initial testers immediately tried to draw a swastika, a piece of Nazi iconography. The Last Of Us Part 2 Testers Show Why We Can’t Have Nice Things In an initial prototype of the game, Abby was going to be able to pick up the paintbrush and continue the artwork herself. you know.Ībby's story is more nuanced than we'd initially have believed, and she's in an on-off relationship with Owen, her childhood sweetheart.Īt one point when the two are in an aquarium, Owen is painting Abby. Up until then, Abby has been the game's primary antagonist and the subject of Ellie’s anger because of, well. ![]() Halfway through the game, players take control of Abby. The Last of Us Part 2was certainly one of the most talked about games of 2020 (has it really been that long?), but Ellie's tale of revenge almost had a little more whimsy to it – until playtesters ruined it.
